Effects of the Mixture of Hydroxyapatite Granules into Bone Chips on the Dynamic Migration of Cemented Acetabular Cups Fixed wi

چکیده
Introduction The impaction bone-grafting (IBG) technique is a technique that can restore acetabular bone loss in revision total hip arthroplasty( THA), while enough bone allografts are not easy to obtain and the quality is not always sufficient. Thus we mixed hydroxyapatite (HA) granules into bone chips to supplement the volume and the mechanical strength of allografts. To investigate the dynamic migration of cemented cup fixed with impaction bone-grafting, we made acetabular bone defect models and the migration of the cup was traced by a high-speed photography camera during cyclic loading conditions. Four bone/HA ratios were compared.

Influence of cementless cup surface on stability and bone fixation 2 years after total hip arthroplasty.
Loss of fixation between bone and implant surface is one of the main treatment problems in total hip arthroplasty. It might lead to implant instability, bone loss and treatment failure resulting in revision surgery. Surface modification is a method for improving bone response to implant and increasing implant osseointegration. However, the currently applied modifications such as hydroxyapatite ...
متن کاملNo superior performance of hydroxyapatite-coated acetabular cups over porous-coated cups
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Hydroxyapatite (HA) coating is believed to improve bone-implant ingrowth and long-term survival of prostheses. Recent studies, however, have challenged this view. Furthermore, HA particles may produce third-body wear and initiate aseptic loosening of implants. We report the performance of HA- and porous-coated acetabular cups in a prospective randomized trial. METHODS T...
متن کاملPolyethylene wear in cemented metal-backed acetabular cups.
We examined radiographic polyethylene wear in 233 cemented total hip arthroplasties (201 patients) with either a metal-backed or a non-metal-backed acetabular cup. All patients had identical cemented one-piece titanium femoral stems with a femoral head diameter of 28 mm. The mean linear wear rate was 0.11 mm/yr in metal-backed sockets and 0.08 mm/yr in non-metal-backed sockets (p = 0.0002). The...
متن کاملCemented Polyethylene Cups in Patients Younger Than 40 Years
UNLABELLED Although uncemented cup implants frequently are used in young patients, we believe long-term survival rates of cups in these patients are somewhat disappointing, and therefore we have continued to use cemented cups in primary THA, even in young patients. However, in cases of acetabular bone stock defects, we also use bone impaction grafting. We prospectively followed 130 patients wit...
متن کاملA cemented cup with acetabular impaction bone grafting is more cost-effective than an uncemented cup in patients under 50 years.
PURPOSE Acetabular deficiencies in young patients can be restored in several ways during total hip arthroplasty. Currently, cementless cups are most frequently used. Impaction bone grafting of acetabular defects is a more biological approach, but is it cost-effective in young patients on the long term? METHODS We designed a decision model for a cost-utility analysis of a cemented cup with ace...
